Abbey expands with New Mezzanine Floor
Jul 05: An opportunity arose for Abbey to purchase a mezzanine floor from another business in our complex. Brian and Bruce (who drives our truck) travelled to Sydney to dismantle the mezzanine floor at the other premises and install them at Abbey. Plans were drawn up to move our existing shelves of archery stock and to remove the pro shop ceiling so the American red cedar trusses of the new mezzanine floor were exposed and blended in to give a sort of log cabin effect.
Whilst it was business as usual during renovations, it did involve a lot of late nights because it was an enormous job to alter a functional warehouse to accommodate the mezzanine floor. We were fortunate to secure temporary premises in the adjoining warehouse to store our shelving and most of our bulk stock while the fitout was carried out.
The result has been worthwhile as it has expanded our production, counting, repairs and storage facilities and extended and enhanced our picking & fulfilment areas of our warehouse. We have increased our warehousing area by an incredible 75%.
