The sport's national controlling bodies are Archery Australia (AA), Australian Bowhunters Association (ABA) and 3D Archery Association of Australia (3DAAA).

Most archery clubs participate in FITA (Federation Internationale de Tir a l'Arc) field and clout archery, as well as target tournaments - both indoors (shooting distance 18 metres) and outdoors (shooting distance 90 metres). Recurve archery is currently the only type of archery allowed at the Olympic Games.
The Australian Bowhunters Association Inc. (ABA), PO Box 975, Morayfield, Qld, 4506. Phone 07 3256 3976. ABA is affiliated with the International Field Archery Association (IFAA) and stages field and 3D field archery and regulates bowhunting activities by members through a uniform Code of Ethics, Rules of Fair Chase and a National Bowhunter Education Programme, maintaining the Australian Record Book of Bow-Shot Game.
3D Archery Association of Australia, (3DAAA) PO Box 343, Casino, NSW, 2470. Phone 02 6662 1776. 3DAAA promotes 3D archery and follows the rules of the International Bowhunting Organisation (IBO). Targets consist of 3-D type animal targets, shooting unmarked distances from 18 to 45 metres.
