Hoyt Carbon RX9 Ultra Description
Hoyt took their incredibly popular RX-8 hunting bow and said "We can do even better." and the Hoyt RX-9, RX-9 Ultra and Alpha AX-2 were born and represent the next evolution in bowhunting performance. Engineered with cutting edge technology and precision, these bows are designed to deliver unmatched speed, accuracy and smooth shooting experiences. Whether you are deep in the field or fine-tuning your set up at the range, these flagship bows offer reliability, durability and the refined shooting comfort that seasoned hunters demand.
These bows are designed for hunters seeking high performance equipment tailored to the most demanding environments. They are built to meet ATA (Archery Trade Association) standards, ensuring speed measurements are accurate and reliable. Each bow is tested using a 350 grain arrow, a 70 pound draw weight and a 30 inch draw length. This ensures that advertised speeds reflect real world performance, avoiding inflated figures often seen with less stringent IBO standards. For archers requiring shorter draw lengths, specific models are optimised to maintain performance without sacrificing speed or smoothness. The RX-9 Ultra squeezes every bit of power out of each draw length and weight that it possibly can.
Bows come with a range of axle-to-axle lengths, allowing shooters to choose between compact models for manoeuvrability in tight hunting spaces or full sized options for increased stability. The draw weight is fully adjustable, ranging from 40 to 80 pounds, catering for archers of varying strength levels and preferences. Additionally, the draw length can be customised between 23 to 31 inches, with adjustments available in precise increments. This versatility is enhanced with adjustable let-off settings, allowing archers to choose between 75%, 80% or 85% let-off, ensuring they can find the most comfortable setup for their shooting style.
Weight is a critical consideration for hunting bows and Hoyt delivers with its lightweight construction. Bare bows weigh between approximately 3.8 to 4.4 pounds, depending on the model, contributing to ease of handling during long treks in the bush. A standout feature is the use of the TEC (Total Engineering Concept) Riser, which combines strength and durability with a lightweight design. This riser enhances overall stability while also reducing torque, making it ideal for achieving consistent accuracy under hunting conditions.
The heart of these bows is the new HBX Gen 4 Cam System, renowned for its smooth draw cycle, efficient energy transfer and silent shot release. The HBX SD Cam System further caters to archers with shorter draw lengths, covering a range from 23 to 27 inches in half inch increments. Both systems are designed for smooth performance across various draw lengths, eliminating the need to compromise speed or accuracy at shorter settings. Additionally, the cams feature adjustable let-off and wall stiffness, allowing for a fully customisable shooting experience.
String and cable systems play a vital role in the performance of bows and they are equipped with Hoyt's proprietary WireWRX technology. These strings and cables are meticulously engineered to optimise speed, reduce noise and minimise vibration, ensuring consistent performance right out of the box. The system's design helps maintain the bow's tuned state, reducing the need for frequent adjustments.
Stabilisation is enhanced with the inclusion of the Short Stop 2.0 Stabiliser. Positioned lower and farther forward on the riser, this stabiliser lowers the centre of gravity, allowing a shorter stabiliser to achieve the same balance and stability as longer, heavier ones. This setup reduces the overall weight of the bow while maintaining excellent aiming stability, particularly beneficial during extended hunts where weight and balance are critical.
The In-Line Accessory System is another innovation, integrating a Picatinny Rail for front mounted sights and an Integrated Rest Mounting System on the back of the riser. This design reduces side mounting clutter, bringing the quiver closer to the centreline of the bow, enhancing balance and reducing side heavy tendencies. With these improvements, the bow is over 10% quieter and has 30% less vibration when compared to conventional accessory setups, ensuring a stealthier approach in hunting scenarios.
Tuning the bow is made easier with an aluminium cam spacer system, allowing fine adjustments to correct paper tuning and optimise arrow flight. Cam spacers can be adjusted individually, making it possible to correct alignment issues for the best performance. Hoyt recommends setting the centre shot between 13/16 inches to 7/8 inches and using the spacer system for precision tuning, particularly for archers who require specific adjustments due to grip pressure or natural torque.
Safety is a paramount consideration and each bow in this series undergoes rigorous testing. Every model must pass a 1,500 dry fire cycle test to ensure that it can withstand the stresses of real world use. This includes testing the durability of the riser, limbs and other components under extreme conditions. The bows are also designed with a focus on shooter comfort and safety, ensuring that they not only perform at the highest level but also provide a smooth and controlled shooting experience.
These Hunting bows represent a blend of cutting edge technology, customisation and durability. These bows are engineered to provide a smooth shooting experience with reduced vibration and noise, optimised for hunters who demand precision and reliability in the field and in the bush. The thoughtful integration of innovative systems makes these bows a top choice for serious archers looking to enhance their hunting performance.
